    The International Program on System Approaches in Agriculture, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University, is organizing a “Seminar on the Agrarian Transformation in Northeast Thailand” as part of the “TRF Seminar Series in Basic Research” to be held on 15 September 2014. 

    This seminar will give researchers from KKU whose work is supported by the Thailand Research Fund (TRF) the opportunity to present important findings of their on-going investigations on agrarian change in Northeast Thailand to colleagues at KKU, TRF administrators, and well-known scholars from Thailand, Japan, and the United States. There will be 11 oral presentations and 6 posters covering a wide range of topics including agricultural intensification and diversification, impacts of urbanization on agriculture, the continuing role of indigenous knowledge and technology in Isan agriculture, and restoration of degraded soils in Northeast Thailand by organic means.

    The seminar will feature two invited speakers: Dr. Jefferson Fox of the East-West Center will give a presentation on Expansion of Rubber (Hevea brasiliensis) and its Implications for Livelihoods, Water, and Carbon in Montane Mainland Southeast Asia, and Dr. Chai Podhisita of the Institute for Population and Social Research, Mahidol University, will discuss Household Dynamics, Capitalism and Agricultural Change in Rural Thailand

    The program will start at 8:30 am in Meeting Room No. 1, on the Second Floor of Building No. 8, Faculty of Agriculture, Khon Kaen University.
