Rubber tree (Hevea brasiliensis) is grown for the production of natural rubber, a
strategic commodity on the global market. Worldwide, plantations are covering more than 12
million hectares nowadays, 92.5% in Asia and 7.5% in Africa and South-America. The main
cultivation region is South East Asia (SEA) where plantations are now spread to all countries and
also to China. Thailand is the first world producer with 3.5 million hectares (or 22 million rais)
which produced 4.3 million tons in 2015 (Rubber Research Institute of Thailand, 2015).
